This Independence Day - Facts about India !

1) The National Flag is a horizontal tricolor of deep SAFFRON (Kesari) at the top,WHITE in the middle and DARK GREEN at the bottom in equal proportion.The ratio of the width of the flag to its length is 2:3.


Saffron color shows Courage,Sacrifice and Renunciation
White color shows Truth and Purity in thoughts.
Dark Green is the symbol of Life Prosperity.
WHEEL(Chakra) in the center of  the white is the symbol of Progress and Movement.It has 24 spokes.


2) Varanasi is one of the oldest Inhabited Places in the world.It is said according to Hindu Mythology,it is 5000 years old.


3) India has the largest number of Post Offices.The World's highest post office is situated in Himachal Pradesh at 15550ft.


4) Taj Mahal is in the list of Seven Wonders the world.It was built in Agra by emperor Shah Jahan to honor his wife Mumtaz Mahal.


5) Snake and Ladders game was invented in India.Originally,the game was called Moksha Patam.The main reason to invent this game was to teach the children about good and bad deeds (the virtue of karma)


6) Amritsar is the most Religious Place in the World. On an average,one lakh devotees visit the Golden Temple of Amritsar on a day.


7) India is not the only one who celebrates its freedom on 15th August .The other countries Bahrain,North Korea, South Korea,Republic of Congo and Liechtenstein celebrate their independence day on the 15th as well.


8) The first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru,hoisted the Indian Flag at the Red Fort's Lahore Gate for the first time on August 15,1947.


9) Water on the Moon was discovered by India in September 2009.


10) The HUMAN CALCULATOR was from India .Shakuntala Devi was given this title because she solved the calculation of two 13 digit numbers that is 7,686,369,774,870 X  2,465,099,745,799 which were picked randomly.She answered correctly in just 28 seconds.
